what's the difference between Big Johns (blue top) and Red Smith (red top)? I notice the red top is a little more expensive, and do they taste the same?

I have been eating red smiths’ sausages since I was a child they are awesome. I do find a difference in taste between the Big Johns and the red smiths’. I do not like the Big Johns as well as the Red smiths.

sometimes there is a "snap" when you bite into one of the two. One has a courser sausage compared to the other! But both always go pretty good with an ice cold beer!

There is a definite difference in taste between the two. Red Smith has more flavor. I do not like the Big John brand, unfortunately that is what most of the stores in my area have started carrying. I will buy my Red Smith online.

i used to live in ocala Fl. but i moved to alabama(parents fault) so its been like 10 years since i had one of these. two days ago i returned to Fl. a nd ate so many i got sick... :)

red smith is the original and bigger with a touch more spice, big john is ok but not as good. red smith was marketed in the south, were big john was more a yankee style sausage treat not as spicy. They sell great because they are cheaper.

red smith is way better.and when you finish them off boil some eggs throw them in the jar and you have pickled eggs cheap

For an extra-spicy treat, take about 2 cups of brine out of the jar and boil it for 5 minutes with several chopped up habanero peppers. Let it steep another 5 minutes and put it back in the jar along with the peppers. Yee-haw!

this is the only reason to go amywhere near florida. I moved to Tn and all I can get in the tri cities is pemrose and they suck. 35 years of red smith. I will order online untill walmarts up here get smart and stock it.

I disagree that Longlakes are better. I order both brands and now I'm reordering Red Smith's. They are the best. I eat one everyday!!!!!!!

well for most of my life I lived in Fl. and I grew up on these things then 12 years ago I moved to Indiana and could not find these anywhere I just about cried, ok I did cry. Then I found the closest thing to it that I could find here, Its called big mama and they are individually packaged and they are kinda like a hot dog sausage, it is just not the same and no where near a florida red smith pickled sausage but thats all that Indiana had so I had to make do with what I could get. Now someone brought me a jar from down south and in 2 days they are gone ( wow a whole gallon, I really missed these things ) and I noticed the web address on the jar and that web address gave the web address of the online store and here I am and I will be buying online from you guys from now on so I can get my sausages in Indiana, as long as you deliver to Indiana I will be good. Thanks for opening the online store.

Suwanee, GA, I too grew up in S. FL and cannot believe GA does not carry this product. Like for real, it's southern. I bought some in W. Kendall Costco(12.26.09) returned and submitted a request to Costco (Alpharetta & Online Customer Service) to stock them in their stores. I used the UPC code on my receipt. Even Walmart in Jacksonville carries the product.

I from S. Florida too and I remeber I used to ask my mom for money everyday before school so I could guy buy some (There wewre sold at my school). It was either the suasages, the pickled eggs, or the pickles. lol But I loved them all. The n I moved to N. Florida in Jr. and i couldnt find the sausages anywhere. Until recently I found out that they carried them at Sams Club. So if there's a Sam's club near you check there for some. I buy them $13.95 a jar(:

wowww... nothing like a hot sausage.. fort lauderdale florida!! moved away and havent tasted one in years. normally i have to buy the big mama sausages individually packaged... but it doesnt taste near the same as a true hot sausage!!!!
