what's the difference between Big Johns (blue top) and Red Smith (red top)? I notice the red top is a little more expensive, and do they taste the same?
Added by: anonymous  May 28, 2007 15:37
They do not taste the same. The Big John's actually taste better to me. They are more crunchy and crisp than the Red Smith's. The Red Smith's are mushy and it's like they mash up easily.

Costco in St Louis doesn't carry them and they don't show up on Costco's website

When the sausages are gone we use the liquid for pickled eggs. A couple of dozen hard-boiled eggs. Leave them in for 2-3 weeks before eating. great stuff.

I don't think any walmarts or costco's sell them any where else except Florida. I love them and I'm from Florida but moved to Alaska because of the military and I can not find them here so I had to order them or have my mom send them. In the end it's still pricey.

One can not tell when the sausages expire because they usually don't last long enough for them to spoil before an expiration date.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHEN DO THESE SAUSAGE EXPIRE ONCE OPEN????

I am so happy RED SMITH FOODS, sale hot sausages online. I moved to GA from South FL, I missed eating hot sausages; when I go home to visit my family I go to Costco and buy two large jars. Thank you for online shopping convenience. Suwanee, GA

I grew up on these sausages, and by golly they are freakin' addictive! I wish they would start selling them in more places, I am in Jackson, Mississippi and the shipping prices are astronomical. My mouth is watering for one with a cold beer!

I just got my jar in today. I've always been a fan of the Penrose sausages and 'Big Mamas'. Anyway, when I opened the jar, they smelled delicious! I quickly grabbed a fork and dug in. I am SO disappointed to find that these sausages are covered with a plastic-like 'casing'. I had to tear at it pretty hard to chew that casing. I have to say, I don't know that I can eat them because of that casing! Anyone know of another brand sold in big jars that DON'T have this casing around each sausage?

I am a polish sausage nut and have tried different brands from all over the country. John's was the best up until yesterday when my wife brought home a jar of these. http://www.shoptheadirondacks.com/gpage2.html THESE ARE THE BEST SAUSAGE'S I HAVE EVER HAD!

OMGoodness.. I been looking for hot sausages for yrs.. I grew up in Miami,FL eating them everyday before and after school.. Big John's is the best.. Also, use to mash it up in a bag of salt & Vingar chips(Blue bag only~Lays) Ummm Ummm GOOD.. It seems to me nobody outside of FL has these or ever heard of them and they sells so fast in the corner store.. Been to SC, NC, PA & visited a few other states since 2004 cause of the military and nobody had them.. Wish I was home :-( but Im a def. order a jar or 2 no matter how much the shipping is.. Its so worth it

I'm from Florida and I love these things. I moved to Mississippi and was so disappointed when I found out they don't even sell them. I went to a corner store yetserday and thought I lucked up and found them but they were red Smith's. They taste nothing like big Johns!
